The Determination of Convex Sets of Uncertainty in Structural Dynamics

چکیده
ABSTRACT. Many analysis and design problems in engineering and science involve uncertainty to varying degrees. This paper is concerned with the structural vibration problem involving uncertain material or geometric parameters, specified as bounds on these parameters. This produces interval parameter values which may be interpreted as interval stiffness and mass matrices. However this approach produces very conservative bounds on the features of the dynamic response such as the eigenvalues or the frequency response. This paper explores the shape of the sets of eigenvalues of the system, allowing for the dependencies between the outputs, and considers various options to approximate this set. Of particular interest is the use of ellipsoids to specify and propagate the uncertainty. Simple two and three degree of freedom discrete systems are used to explore these concepts.

Event-driven and Attribute-driven Robustness
Over five decades have passed since the first wave of robust optimization studies conducted by Soyster and Falk. It is outstanding that real-life applications of robust optimization are still swept aside; there is much more potential for investigating the exact nature of uncertainties to obtain intelligent robust models. For this purpose, in this study, we investigate a more refined description...
متن کاملModeling of Epistemic Uncertainty in Reliability Analysis of Structures Using a Robust Genetic Algorithm
In this paper the fuzzy structural reliability index was determined through modeling epistemic uncertainty arising from ambiguity in statistical parameters of random variables. The First Order Reliability Method (FORM) has been used and a robust genetic algorithm in the alpha level optimization method has been proposed for the determination of the fuzzy reliability index. The sensitivity level ...
متن کاملFunctionally closed sets and functionally convex sets in real Banach spaces
Let $X$ be a real normed space, then $C(subseteq X)$ is functionally convex (briefly, $F$-convex), if $T(C)subseteq Bbb R $ is convex for all bounded linear transformations $Tin B(X,R)$; and $K(subseteq X)$ is functionally closed (briefly, $F$-closed), if $T(K)subseteq Bbb R $ is closed for all bounded linear transformations $Tin B(X,R)$. We improve the Krein-Milman theorem ...
متن کاملA Simple Approach for Determination of Actuator and Sensor Locations in Smart Structures Subjected To the Dynamic Loads
The present work demonstrates the successful application of a simple active vibration control procedure based on structural dynamics. Based on mathematical and structural dynamics’ theories, the appropriate locations of sensor and actuator locations of the smart structure are predicted. Also, the optimum value of actuator force which controls the structural vibrations as quickly as it is possib...
متن کاملConvexity and Geodesic Metric Spaces
In this paper, we first present a preliminary study on metric segments and geodesics in metric spaces. Then we recall the concept of d-convexity of sets and functions in the sense of Menger and study some properties of d-convex sets and d-convex functions as well as extreme points and faces of d-convex sets in normed spaces. Finally we study the continuity of d-convex functions in geodesic metr...
